Humorous look at life in the suburbs during the 1950s was made into a 1958 movie starring Doris Day and then a NBC-TV series (1965-67) starring Patricia Crowley. Author Kerr always found humor in raising her children, tending her pets and being married to writer & critic Walter Kerr living in Larchmont, N.Y.
Jean Kerr wrote several bestsellers and several Boardway plays besides influencing a younger generation of housewives-turned-writers such as Erma Bombeck. Kerr said that most of her writing happened in her car several blocks away from screaming children and barking dogs. She said that she began to write because after she origanized the glove compartment there was nothing left to do but write.
A funny, talented lady even after all these years (there are things she writes you can relate to in 2010) and this was her bigger seller.
